For adults with moderate to severe submental fat (double chin): fat dissolving injections are an FDA approved injectable treatment that permanently destroys fat cells in the treatment area under the chin for an improved profile. What is Kybella®?
Kybella® is a man-made form of deoxycholic acid (a naturally occurring material that helps the body absorb fat) that destroys the fat cells contributing to double chins. So, in no time, your double chin will be a thing of the past. Kybella® injections basically mimic the body’s natural fat-absorption process, so you can skip the liposuction.
On which part of the body can Kybella® be used?
Currently, Kybella® has only been approved for use on double chins. Because Kybella has been shown to be most effective on small sections of fat, it’s not a viable option for treating issues like love handles or muffin tops, though the FDA is researching its potential benefits for these areas.

How does Kybella® work?
Formerly known as ATX-101, Kybella® is a synthetic version of the naturally occurring molecule deoxycholic acid, which is produced by the human body to break down and absorb dietary fats. When Kybella® is injected into the subcutaneous (beneath the skin) fat of the submental (under the neck) region, the membranes of the targeted fat cells are destroyed. Once destroyed, the cells are no longer able to store fat. The destruction of these cells is then followed by the body’s natural elimination and healing process. This process is slow but steady, and the fat cells are typically removed from the area within four to six weeks.

How long do results from Kybella® last?
Once Kybella destroys fat cells, they’re gone forever, which means the results from the injections are permanent. In the clinical trials used by the FDA, even patients who experienced weight gain after receiving Kybella didn’t see the return of their double chins. Still, you should always strive to maintain a healthy weight to maximize the results.
